Letter no. 2
Hey friends,
Welcome to the second edition of the On Creative Work Letter.
INTERVIEWS
This week’s interview features Nelyn Phillip. Nelyn grew up in Micronesia with artist parents, and she began painting in high school. As she describes in our conversation, she put her art aside for a few years. When the pandemic came around, she returned to painting and began sharing her art online, which has already led to some unexpected successes, and certainly more to come.
REFLECTIONS
This week’s reflection is On Wendell Berry, bell hooks and Belonging. In this piece, I reflect on passages by two influential Kentucky writers. I recall my two trips to Kentucky, the power of nature, and the value of feeling a sense of belonging within a community and within nature.
CREATIVE GRATITUDE
This week’s creative gratitude is Norah Jones is Playing Along. This podcast, hosted by the wonderful singer Norah Jones, features roughly one-hour-long relaxed conversations with other great musicians. Each episode includes several live acoustic collaborations between Norah and the guest sprinkled throughout the conversation. The first episode, with Jeff Tweedy, is a great place to start.
Thanks for reading,
Peter
